Commerce

Manufacturing is an activity involving the bringing together of land, labor, capital and modern technology to add value to goods. Within the context of the highly competitive global economy, manufacturing is an activity which can only be done successfully where a genuine comparative advantage really exists. It is unlikely to succeed where it relies mainly on artificial fiscal incentives that are created in order to attract it.

The most important comparative advantage is the local availability of the basic raw material that is required for the industry in question. Any industry which requires the importation of the basic raw material is not sustainable.

The next important factor is the existence of the infrastructure needed for the successful engagement of manufacturing activity. The most important elements of basic infrastructure are electricity, roads, telecommunications, airports, seaports, water and all other services that must be provided through public utilities.

In developing countries the technology that is required for manufacturing is likely to be imported; however, the mastery of the technology depends on the workforce available in the country.

There must be a trained or trainable workforce in the country; the workforce as a factor of production is an important variable that influences the location of industry because ultimately, the productivity of the workforce will be decisive in the survival of the industry as a whole;

Promotion of Manufactoring Activities

Based on these considerations, the Government of Ambazonia intends to promote manufacturing activities in the territory of Ambazonia in two phases:

Phase 1

The Government of Ambazonia intends to promote manufacturing activities that are based on the palm industry, rubber, tea, Coffee, banana, timber and the petroleum industry. In this respect the Government of Ambazonia shall provide all fiscal incentives that are needed to make these resource-based industries truly competitive. The Government of Ambazonia shall also undertake to provide the infrastructure that is needed for the successful operation of industries in these sectors.

Other agro-allied industries which will be promoted are in dairy farming and fruit-juice production based on fruit plantations that can be established in areas such as the Ndop plain, the Mbo Plain and in other farming areas of Wum and Donga & Mantung.

Phase 2

As a long term goal, the Government of Ambazonia shall aim at creating conditions which shall attract investment in high value-added manufacturing in leading edge technologies. In order to achieve this goal, there must be very strong emphasis on the quality of education as a whole, the quality of basic infrastructure and the stability of the entire political and constitutional system on which the country is governed. This is a long term goal that shall have a 15-20 year horizon.
