This West Cameroon Independence Monument in Mamfe is probably the least known monument constructed during the years of giddy euphoria to commemorate the birth of the bilingual Federal United Cameroon Republics. Nonetheless, in terms of symbolism, the Independence Monument in Mamfe is as important as the ill-fated history of our people. And like our Homeland, it is a victim of neglect, indifference, and even scorn from the people of Mamfe - a once vibrant town which began its downward spiral immediately after reunification. Today, the monument is in dire need of a new coat of paint, and surroundings that are worthy of the once lofty aspirations that initially led to its construction - Another telling indication of the immediate necessity for freedom for Ambazonia.
